The Pomeranian is a tiny spitz-type dog with a fox-like face and a profuse double coat, descended from larger sled dogs of the Arctic. Lively, bold and endlessly curious, it is a compact companion that thinks it is far bigger than it is.
Pomeranians are confident extroverts — playful, inquisitive and quick to bark at anything new, which makes them good little watchdogs. They are affectionate and trainable but can be feisty and bossy, so early socialisation and gentle consistency help. Their small size makes them ill-suited to rough play.
